A brief history of EDTA

Education in Dance and Theatre Arts (EDTA) is an Association dedicated to the promotion of Dance and Theatre Arts in this country. It is uniquely Australian, based in Australia to bring young children and adults a training system in which all theatre arts can be combined and studied.

The society was formed early in 1974 by a group of teachers from New South Wales and Queensland. They combined their knowledge, experience and expertise to compile a new syllabus in performing arts. Patrons, Ms Doreen Thomas and Mr Stanley Henderson were part of this new and exciting venture together with many of the examiners and committee members still active today.

Since it's beginning, EDTA has grown to become a major force in all facets of the performing arts. Members and Administration together continually strive to aim for high standards and are always seeking new and varied experiences for members and students. The popularity of this organisation is brought about by the diversity offered in all of its syllabi.

Graded examinations are available in Classical Ballet, Modern - Contemporary, Jazz Technique, Tap Technique, Drama, Spanish, European, Musical Theatre and Al Gilbert (Hollywood Style) Technique. Each candidate receives a Certificate, medal and detailed Report. Standards are high, aimed at producing students who are able to adequately enjoy and give enjoyment as artists.

In February 2003. Education in Dance and Theatre Arts (EDTA) formed an Incorporated Association to allow further growth and development. The Association's ambition is to promote ideas in education in dance and theatre arts and maintain the highest possible standard, supply demonstrations to members, provide student workshops, provide Dance and Drama Festivals and hold bi-annual Classical Ballet Bursaries.
